(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- France condemned in the strongest terms the execution in Iran of Alireza Akbari, an Iranian-British national.
A statement by the French foreign affairs ministry expressed full solidarity with the British authorities, extending condolences to Akbari's family.
At the Minister's request, charge d'affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Paris was summoned once again this morning, expressing outrage. A warning was also issued to him: Iran's repeated violations of international law cannot go unanswered, especially when it comes to the treatment of foreign nationals the country arbitrarily detains, the statement pointed out.
It reiterated France's steadfast opposition to the death penalty everywhere and in all circumstances, condemning its political use in Iran.
Earlier today, Iran declared execution of Akbari, who was detained in 2019 while serving as deputy defense minister, on charges of spying for British intelligence. (end)
