New Projection Technology From ZEISS For Planetarium In South Korea

(MENAFN- Industrial News Service)

ZEISS has won the contract to install state-of-the-art projection technology in the planetarium at Seoul Science Park in South Korea in March 2023. The hybrid system for the 11 m dome is based on the combination of optical-mechanical and digital projection with integrated control. The analog component is a ZEISS ASTERION Starball for impressive depiction of the starry night sky. It is the latest version of a ZEISS star projector.

The Starball is replacing the 30-year-old ZEISS M1015 star projector. ZEISS is fitting the projector with two options for the customer: A built-in lift to lower the Starball from the center of the dome and scintillation, which causes all stars to twinkle in response to a control command, just as they do in nature by force of atmospheric influences. Two ZEISS VELVET LED projectors complement the projection system with digital fulldome projection. Both ZEISS ASTERION and ZEISS VELVET projections provide a deep black background without the characteristic glow of classic projectors.

'This allows visitors to the planetarium at Seoul Science Park to enjoy a 'perfect' night,' explains Martin Kraus, Head of ZEISS Planetariums. The ZEISS UNIVIEW planetarium software offers accurate and vivid astronomical visualizations. It allows all phenomena of the universe to be displayed in a three-dimensional perspective beyond the earthbound view, all the way out to the remnants of the Big Bang.

Issuing the contract for refitting the planetarium in Seoul to ZEISS is also a personal success story for the ZEISS representative in South Korea: 'He was the one who fitted out the planetarium with ZEISS exactly 30 years ago,' Kraus says.

A second planetarium on the western outskirts of Seoul is also getting ZEISS VELVET projection technology. It is expected to open in early 2023.
