(MENAFN) An explosion shook Poland's Police headquarters in Warsaw on Thursday, according to the country's Interior Ministry. The bomb occurred in a room close to the cabinet of the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, General Jaroslaw Szymczyk, causing slight injuries to the officer.
The incident occurred at the headquarters on Wednesday, and the commander was hospitalized "for observation." A civilian employee at the headquarters was also injured in the incident but was not hospitalized. The interior Ministry emphasized that the explosive device was a "gift" given to Szymczyk during a recent visit to Ukraine.
"The item was a gift from one of the heads of the Ukrainian services," the ministry stated, without clarifying the nature of the package or naming the Ukrainian official who'd given it to Szymczyk.
As per local media sources, the bomb reportedly caused some structural damage to the structure, with shrapnel pelting the ceiling of the afflicted room. According to some reports, the Ukrainian 'present' was a "grenade launcher" that was unintentionally detonated inside the HQ.
