China reveals new COVID policies

(MENAFN) China’s administration has revealed new Covid rules and eased some of the more controversial bans. The move came shortly following a series of mass protests in the nation last week as protestors called to stop full lockdowns and quarantines.

On Wednesday, China’s National Health Commission released new policies, in line with which, “asymptomatic infected persons and mild cases” will from now isolate at home for a week as opposed to special quarantine centers. On top of that, the authorities pledged to “further reduce the scope of nucleic acid testing and reduce testing frequency.”

“We will protect people’s safety and health to the greatest [extent] and keep the impact on social and economic development to a minimum,” the declaration by the State Council Prevention and Control Mechanism read.

Moreover, the new approach urges health officials to label high-risk areas at a building level, in marked contrast to the preceding practice of sealing off whole residential areas, sometimes for weeks.
