Srinagar- Two day Art exhibition 'Satrang' organized by Green Valley Educational Institute in collaboration with Department of Tourism concluded at Nigeen Club on Wednesday.
The exhibition was aimed at providing a platform to budding artists of the School and other artists.
During the two day event, students showcased their work while demonstrating it to all the visitors.
Badrun Nisa, a Research Scholar at University of Kashmir was among the artists whose work caught everyone's attention. Nisa's artworks revolved around spirituality and Sufism.
Nisa said she has been painting since her school days and she draws admiration from Sufi poets and personalities.
“I have been brought up with love for Sufi poets and personalities. I am a great admirer of Maulana Rumi. My grandfather would narrate poetic verses of Hafiz and Saadi when I was young”
“Unfortunately, these days, we are more into materialism than spirituality. In reality, we are spiritual beings first human beings later” Nisa said.
Zainab Zargar, a student of 10th Class said that she draws and paints to define herself.
“I draw to express my feelings and vent out good and bad feelings”
“This is a painting drawn against racism and color based discrimination” Zainab points towards painting of a Black woman.
Zainab said that she believes the skin color of a human does not define beauty and nobody should be marginalized for his or her color orientation.
Hundreds of art lovers thronged the art exhibition which lasted for two days.
Artists, however, voiced concern over the fact that there are very few art-lovers in Kashmir who purchase paintings. They sought government intervention to promote art in Kashmir.
