Arab News: MBC is preparing Saudi ‘Dubai Bling’ competitor for Shahid

(MENAFN) MBC Studios is planning for a Saudi rival show to Netflix’s hit series “Dubai Bling,” network sources informed Arab News.

The Saudi competitor is scheduled to issue on MBC’s subscription-based streaming service Shahid.

“We have been asked to put it together and get it out there ASAP,” a source with knowledge of internal communications updated Arab News.

MBC, which lately moved its headquarters to Riyadh from Dubai, is famous for forcing the envelope on many fronts, creating daring and critical television shows like the Daesh bride series “Black Crows,” which intimidates the producers, and “Tash Ma Tash,” a sarcastic comedy that was condemnatory of Saudi Arabia’s religious police and their methods.

Earlier in November, Arab News first heart of the news that a Saudi idea for the hit Netflix show was being taken into account.

“Contrary to what people might think, there is actually a lot of excitement in the Kingdom to produce it and showcase the success stories of locals and expats alike in a similar manner,” the Saudi source had stated in a previous meeting.

“If you think the actors in the UAE version are rich, wait till you see who we might have lined up for ‘Saudi Bling.’ We are just waiting for approvals now and of course, like with the Dubai show, we will ensure it does not cross any lines and accurately reflects the lives of the rich and famous in Riyadh.”
