OIC Welcomes Establishing The Global Islamic Refugee Fund


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Jeddah, Sep. 23, 2022, SPA — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the signing of the establishment of the Global Islamic Refugee Fund (GIFR), in partnership between the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)'s poverty alleviation arm, the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), it was reported here today.
This came in a speech delivered by OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, during the event organized in New York yesterday, attended by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank, Director General of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development and Supervisor General of the Riyadh-based King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
Ambassador Bakheet praised the partnership that binds the organization with these institutions, stressing the organization's commitment to strengthening it in various fields, especially to meet the challenges related to refugees in the Islamic world and the organization's support for the initiative to establish the fund to achieve its desired humanitarian goals.
