Ex-US diplomat: Erdogan's strategy to Israel is "constructive and moving in right direction"

(MENAFN) Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan's policy to Israel is "constructive and moving in the right direction," an expert and former US diplomat informed Anadolu Agency.

Matt Bryza, senior researcher at the Atlantic Council, a Washington-based think tank, mentioned in an exclusive meeting that "President Erdogan seems to be quite committed to normalizing relations with Israel. He's made that evident by virtue of what appears to be a very good meeting with President (Isaac) Herzog in Ankara."

Bryza highlighted that Erdogan's government managed the warming of relations "very competently and strategically" by first having Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu visit Israel and then, following a suspension of a couple of weeks, a trip by Energy Minister Fatih Donmez.

Those visits were "very important" as a sign that Türkiye and Erdogan want to have a normal tie with Israel, counting in the area of energy, he continued.

He went further on, "Overall, the policy seems to be constructive and moving in the right direction if your goal is to normalize relations with Israel, even while making clear President Erdogan's personal, enduring support for the Palestinian cause."
