India Hands Over Dornier 228 Aircraft To Sri Lanka
India today handed over a Dornier 228 aircraft to Sri Lanka, the first such aircraft to be handed over to Sri Lanka.
The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said that the aircraft was ceremonially welcomed and handed over to the Sri Lanka Air Force in the presence of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other dignitaries.
Sri Lanka had sought the possibility of obtaining two Dornier reconnaissance aircraft from India during the defence dialog between India and Sri Lanka held in on January.
India later agreed to provide one aircraft on a gratis basis for the first two years of the interim period since it would be required two years to manufacture new aircraft.
The Indian government agreed to later provide a brand-new Dornier 228 aircraft to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
