Russia launches Iranian space enterprise into orbit from Kazakhstan


(MENAFN) In line with the Russian national space enterprise, Russia started an Iranian satellite into orbit on Tuesday from southern Kazakhstan.

The activity was taken barely three weeks after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Russian President Vladimir Putin assured to cooperate versus the West.

As stated by Roscosmos, a Russian Soyuz rocket lifted the remote sensing satellite Khayyam into orbit from the Baikonur spaceport.

The satellite is titled for the Persian poet and philosopher Omar Khayyam, who lived in the 11th century.

Roscosmos also expressed that "the Iranian Khayyam Earth’s remote sensing satellite has been successfully delivered into the designated orbit with the help of a Russian Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket that blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and a Fregat booster."

Yury Borisov stated that, the chief of Roscosmos, the launch of the Iranian satellite is a significant occasion for collaboration between Russia and Iran.

Borisov confirmed that "the successful launch of the satellite for and an order from Iran has become a landmark event in the Russia-Iran bilateral cooperation that paves the way for implementing new and more dimensional projects."
