Airbus to start in-house development of hydrogen-powered airplane

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury reported to a German newspaper in an exclusive meeting that the firm considers creating its own engines for the planes that are fueled with hydrogen.

Planemaker Airbus reported it intends to create the first zero-emission hydrogen-powered commercial airplane before 2035. Mr Faury stated to the Welt am Sonntag paper, he also contemplates adding the new airplanes with electric motors created in the firm itself.

Mr Faury said, while talking of a probable “change of strategy", “that's something we could basically do ourselves.” He said, “We don’t need to change the laws of physics to go with hydrogen. Hydrogen has an energy density three times that of kerosene – [technically it] is made for aviation.”
