HBKU Translation and Interpreting Institute Offers Specialized Note-Taking Workshop

(MENAFN- Hamad Bin Khalifa University) Doha, January 31, 2022 – Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) will present a workshop “Master the Technique of Note-Taking” from February 6-10, 2022. Participants will learn how to take notes in a systematic way as a foundation to acquire advanced consecutive interpreting techniques.

Consecutive interpreters use a special system of notes and short-term memory to reproduce statements in a second language after the speaker stops talking, in contrast to real-time simultaneous interpreting. Their services do not require any professional equipment and play an important role in business interactions, such as small meetings, court hearings, interviews, and medical consultations.

The four-day workshop will be delivered by HBKU TII’s experienced trainer, Mazen Alfarhan. Participants will learn how to strike a balance between recording their notes and processing the information and making connections between ideas. The program will include a step-by-step guide to note-taking and a series of practical exercises using audio/video texts. Participants will be guided through live consecutive interpreting and short-term memory boosting exercises to apply the techniques learned.
