GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Information Technology Department of southeastern Paktia province on Saturday said it had restored damaged telecomtowers in the province in the last few months.

MulaviNusratullahHijrat, director of Paktia IT department, told Pajhwok Afghan News,“A number of telecom towers were destroyed in the past wars, some of which have been repaired and others will be restored in the near future.”

He said that two new towers each were installed in some districts while a number of damaged ones were repaired.

Hijrat said that 2G and 3G services were also activated in a number of sites.

A survey has been launched across Paktia to assess telecommunication and internet services, to find out which areas have problems and need improvements, he said.

Residents of Paktia province say that telecommunication services have improved somewhat recently, but in some remote areas are still deprived of it.

Eid Mohammad, a resident of Shawak district, said there was only one mobile operator operating in the district and people had troubles in full access to telecom services.

He asked officials concerned to install new towers in the district and help people get out of the trouble.

Many telecom towers were destroyed during past conflicts while many others were inactive due to bad security situation in Paktia province, but they are reactivated now.
