US airports postpone launch of 5G services
(MENAFN) Two major US mobile network providers: AT&T and Verizon, have agreed to delay the launch of their upcoming 5G service at certain airports.
The C-band service, which provides higher speeds and wider coverage, was supposed to go live tomorrow. However, airlines in the United States have pressed for postponing the launch, fearing that the signals could disrupt with aircraft navigation systems.
As a result of the pressure to derail their launch, the telecom corporations voiced their discontent.
AT&T stated the launch would be delayed "temporarily", as a "limited number of towers around certain airport runways." It went on to further state that legislators had around "two years" to prepare for the launch of 5G service.
