Tunisia's Workers' Party criticizes detaining African nation’s previous president
(MENAFN) Tunisia's Workers' Party has criticized the latest detaining in jail for a past president of the North African country, labelling the judgement as an "unfair political ruling."
"We condemn this ruling … and we consider the ruling issued as a political ruling dictated by the Carthage (Presidential) Palace," based on the party’s statement late on Thursday, a day after Moncef Marzouki, 76, was jailed in absentia to four years in jail on accusations of "attacking external state security."
It suspected authorities of employing state organizations to remove political rivals, so as to "fabricate cases and track activists instead of opening the pending files that the Tunisian people are waiting for their liberation."
