(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: In order to counter growing propaganda against coronavirus vaccine, Darul Afta Pakistan has issued a fatwa (edict) which declares that the vaccination is legal and permissible according to Shariah.
The edict says the vaccine is needed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. It says well off people are allowed to buy vaccine for those who are entitled to Zakat.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Allama Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi announced the fatwa while ddressing a joint press conference at the office of the Muttahida Ulema Board in Lahore on Monday. He said the edict has been issued with after consultation with Ulema, Muftis and leading scholars of the Darul Afta Pakistan.
The fatwa says it is a responsibility of every individual to administer vaccination against coronavirus. It says Shariah commands to protect oneself and others from harm and it is not right to spread rumours about the vaccine.
Leading religious institutions in the Islamic world including Darul Afta Saudi Arabia, Majma Al-Fiqh Al-Islami Jeddah and Darul Afta Egypt have already declared administering coronavirus vaccine as Shariah obligation so one can ensure personal safety as well as of others.
No plan to close mosques during Ramazan
Tahir Ashrafi said Islamic law commands people to avoid suffering and save others. He said the opinion of medical experts is final. The edict was issued after a series of meetings chaired by the Imam of the Kaaba Sheikh Saleh bin Hameed at the Islamic Jurisprudence Council in Jeddah, which operates under the auspices of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Tahir Ashrafi said leading scholars and leaders of Muslim world including Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Mufti-e-Azam of Saudi Arabia and the president of Palestine have been vaccinated. He said the Darul Afta Pakistan also endorses the fatwa of the Mufti-e-Azam of Saudi Arabia about vaccination during fasting.
The special assistant said no proposal is under consideration to close mosques during or before the holy month of Ramazan. He said mosques in Pakistan were open even at that time when mosques were closed all over the world on account of the coronavirus pandemic. He said the supply of vaccines for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims would be ensured as per the instructions of the Saudi Arabian government.
