Turkey: Tourism sector sees recovery

(MENAFN)Following a severe 2020 marked by the coronavirus pandemic, Turkey's tourism industry expects better results in 2021 amid an inoculation rollout, but a return to pre-pandemic times stays indefinable for now, sector insiders declare.

The Culture and Tourism Ministry declared lately, choked off by the COVID-19, the number of strangers visiting Turkey hit 12.7 million in 2020, fell by 71.7 percent from the past year mostly because of international travel constraints and lockdowns.

In the meantime, the Turkish Statistical Institute showed that Turkey's tourism incomes slipped by 65.1 percent year on year to USD12.6 billion last year.

In 2019, Turkey's tourism incomes had recorded a record high of USD34.5 billion with more than 45 million foreign tourists. The southern Mediterranean province of Antalya alone, with its beaches and archaeological places, hosted almost 15 million travelers.
