For the 72nd day in a row, prisoner Maher Al-Akhras continues his open hunger strike, in protest against the unjust administrative detention against him, amid warnings of the serious deterioration of his health condition, stressing that the strike will continue until he is martyred or released.
In turn, the head of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners'' Affairs Authority, Qadri Abu Bakr, stated that the prisoner Maher al-Akhras is in an increasingly dangerous health condition day after day, in light of his refusal to take up any support and his insistence on continuing his strike until his demand for his immediate release is met.
Abu Bakr warned of the danger of the situation of the prisoner Al-Akhras, pointing out that the continued intransigence of the occupation by rejecting his demands and continuing his strike may lead to damage to the heart, eyes, or ears after refusing to take up the supports.
Al-Akhras family had earlier demanded serious intervention to save his life before it was too late, as he loses consciousness from time to time, is unable to move, suffers convulsive seizures repeatedly, and sometimes does not distinguish who is standing in front of him.
Since starting the last strike, the silent prisoner has been subjected to repeated transfers, in an attempt to exhaust him and discourage him from continuing with his step.
Al-Akhras was detained at the beginning of his detention in ''Hawara'' detention center, then he was transferred to the cells of ''Ofer'' prison, until he was transferred to ''Ramla Clinic'' prison, and finally to ''Kaplan'' hospital.
In a message by him filmed on his bed at Kaplan Hospital a few days ago, the prisoner said "My only condition is freedom .. either freedom or martyrdom, and on both sides a victory for my people and the prisoners."
''This strike is an announcement of the condition of the prisoners they arrived in, in defense of every Palestinian prisoner, and in defense of my people who are suffering from the occupation, and my victory in this strike is a victory for the prisoners and my Palestinian people,'' he added.
It is noteworthy that the prisoner Maher Al-Akhras was born in August 1971 in the town of Silat Al-Dhahr in Jenin.
The occupation arrested him several times in 1989, and his detention continued for seven months at the time, the second in 2004 for two years, and the third in 2009, and he remained in administrative detention for 16 months, and he was arrested in 2018 for 11 months.
The occupation authorities also arrested him on July 27, and transferred him to administrative detention for a period of four months, which was later confirmed, while the court tried to circumvent his strike by resorting to what it calls a freeze on administrative detention, which does not mean the end of his detention.
The open hunger strike, or what is known as the ''empty stomach battle,'' is the detainee''s refusal to eat all kinds and forms of food items within the reach of the prisoners, with the exception of water and a little salt.
