N. Afghan fighting kills 14 Taliban militants, 2 police officers


(MENAFN) Based on a confirmation made on Sunday by a local police official, Afghanistan's northern Samangan province witnessed the emerging of a conflict over Saturday night, in which 16 people, including two police personnel and 14 Taliban militants were murdered.

Xinhua news agency cited Munir Rahimi as saying "The clashes began after militants armed with guns and propelled grenades attacked security checkpoints in surrounding areas of Dara-i-Suf Payyan and the neighboring Feruz Nakhcher districts. The Afghan Air Force, in accordance with active defense course of action, also supported the ground forces to defeat the militants."

The statement revealed that the fighting also resulted in hurting twelve other militants, and the dead bodies were on the ground when the rest of the insurgents escaped to nearby mounts.


Local villagers and the Afghan Red Crescent Society personnel usually collect the bodies of the militants after clashes to recognize and deliver the bodies to their families.
