Sri Lanka- Suspect linked to Easter attack arrested
(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A key suspect who had assisted in organizing the terrorist attack on the Zion Church in Batticaloa on Easter Sunday in April 2019, was arrested today.The Police Media Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne told the Media during a special press conference this evening that the suspect had provided transport for the suicide bomber who had carried out the attack on the church. The suspect, who has been identified as a resident of Mount Lavinia, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), he said. SP Senaratne said the suspect will be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and will be questioned. Investigations are underway into further information received that the suspect had also assisted in organizing the attack on the ST. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade, and the suicide bomber who carried out the attack, he said.The Police Spokesman said 31 suspects are currently detained and are being questioned by the CID, while another 60 are detained and are being questioned by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID).
