Jordan- Deputy House speaker meets US Congress delegation
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 21 (Petra)- First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Dr. Nassar Qaisi, said Jordan's reform process is "continuing" and stems from an internal national choice, with initiatives and directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Qaisi's remarks came during a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation representing advisors and assistants to the US Congress members currently visiting the Kingdom, adding Jordan will continue to represent a model of security, peace, moderation, and a voice for dialogue.
On fighting terrorism, Qaisi said Jordan was the first to leadthe war on this phenomenon, which various countries around the world have suffered from repercussions, as affiliated groups are trying to distort the image of tolerant Islam and its teachings that call for peace.
As for the Palestinian cause, he stressed the importance of maintaining the status quo in Quds Sharif, noting the Israeli escalation in Jerusalem and its consequences "seriously" threaten the chances of peace, and reminding of the holy city as a final status issue.
On bolstering cooperation prospects, he stressed the importance of deepening the strategic relations between the two friendly countries, based on mutual cooperation and trust, especially the joint steps taken in the war on terrorism.
For their part, the delegation expressed their appreciation for Jordan's role on many issues of common concern, stressing their keenness to communicate with the Lower House on several parliamentary and legislative issues, which will contribute to boosting exchanging expertise in this field.
