Vale mining warns of another dam collapse
(MENAFN) Brazilian mining giant Vale has notified that one of its dams in the state of Minas Gerais could fall apart at any moment.
The company has raised the level of risk at the mining waste dam in the city of Barao de Cocais to three, the highest grade, indicating its immediate break down.
State authorities have ordered the evacuation of nearby communities on Friday.
The news comes two months after another dam operated by the same company broke, releasing a wave of toxic mud that almost certainly killed about 300 people.
Authorities have since banned some types of dams, but companies have yet to eliminate them.
