Wataniya Mobile becomes Ooredoo Palestine


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Wataniya Mobile has officially been rebranded as Ooredoo Palestine, marking another important step forward for the global brand that launched in 2013. The rebrand of Wataniya Mobile is part of Ooredoo Group's strategy to evolve its business and create a foundation for new opportunities for customers across its footprint in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
For customers in Palestine, the fresh new brand is set to support a wave of exciting new initiatives and connect them to Ooredoo's global community.
To celebrate the launch of the brand, Ooredoo Palestine has offered free 3G access to customers in West Bank and free calling minutes in Gaza. Since launching 3G services for customers in West Bank at the start of 2018 as part of its network modernisation strategy, the company has in seen record-breaking demand for the service.
A brand inauguration event was held in West Bank, Palestine recently, which was attended by ministers, ambassadors and senior executives from Ooredoo Palestine and the Ooredoo Group.
Prominent figures at the event included Dr Mohamed Mustafa, representing President Mahmoud Abbas; Dr Allam Mousa, Palestine's Minister of Telecoms and IT; Ooredoo Group chairman HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani; Ooredoo Group chief executive officer Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani; Ooredoo Palestine chairman Mohamed Abou Ramadan and Ooredoo Palestine CEO Dr Durgham Maraee.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Abdulla said, 'Ooredoo today is a brand that reaches tens of millions of people in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia. Our name means ‘I want', which expresses everyone's aspirations for a better and more rewarding future.
'We have always put our customers at the heart of our business and we're committed more than ever to enrich their daily digital lives so they can take advantage of the life-changing opportunities that mobile technology offers. Today, we extend the Ooredoo brand to Palestine, welcoming Ooredoo Palestine to our global family and making the first step of a remarkable journey for us all.
Sheikh Saud said, 'Today is a historic day for Ooredoo Group, as one of our most dynamic markets adopts the Ooredoo brand, marking a new milestone within the company. This rebrand is a testament to our confidence in our strategy and our understanding of the incredible opportunities in has delivered to businesses and communities around the world.
Ramadan said, 'As the company moves towards sustainable profitability, with a customer base that has increased significantly over the same period last year and with the largest registered capital in the Palestine Securities Exchange with a value of 293mn shares issued and paid, we are very happy to crown today these successes by unifying Wataniya Mobile with its largest investor and parent company Ooredoo Group.
Maraee said, 'We have succeeded in launching our business in the Gaza Strip and we have provided the best campaigns and offers to our customers there, which reflected positively on the economy as a whole and played a role in boosting the Gazan market.
