(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's medal-winning run continued at the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games on Tuesday when Taha al Harrasi picked a bronze in the men's 100m T36 event to give Oman its second medal at the Games at the Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta.
Malaysia's Mohamad Ridzuan won the gold with a time of 11.87s while China's Yang Yifie clocked 11.91 for silver.
Harrasi completed the race in 12.36 for the bronze among the eight athletes. The Omani will hope to win another medal when he competes in the 400m T36 event on Wednesday.
It is the second medal for Harrasi this year after he had won a bronze at an international meet in Tunis in 100m T38 event. Earlier on Monday,
Mohammed al Mashaykhi opened Oman's medal account when claimed a silver in the men's club throw F32 event.
Iran's Younes Seifipour won the gold with a throw of 30.16m.
Mashaykhi won the second place with a throw of 29.11m while Kuwait's Mohammad Nasser snatched a bronze throwing 24.76m. Mashaykhi's teammate, Mohammed al Qasmi, finished fifth in the same event with a throw of 21.86m.
Mashaykhi will look for his second medal when he competes in the shot put F32 event on Friday. The 28 year old para athlete had won Oman's first medal at the World Para Athletics Championship in London, UK in July, last year.
En route to his silver-medal triumph, he had shattered the world record of 10.39m only to be broken by Algeria Lahouari Bahlaz at the same event.
Mashaykhi has been in impressive form since his exploits at the worlds. He stole the limelight at the 2018 CPISRA World Games, in Sant Cugat, Spain, in August, when he clinched three medals including a gold and two silver.
Organised by the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA), the Omani had won gold in the shot put F32 (2kg) category, a silver in the F32 (1kg) discus event and a silver in the club throw F32 event.
The talented athlete had also won a gold and a silver at the tenth Fazza International Athletics Championship held in March in UAE.
Mashaykhi is accompanied by coach Sonia Mustapha of Tunisia and Mansoor al Touqi, president of the Oman Paralympic Committee in Jakarta.
A total of 3,000 athletes from 43 countries are taking part in the Games that opened on Saturday. The Asian Para Games will run through October 13.
