Oman- Second Dutch Food Week features live cooking show
The event, organised by the Embassy of the Netherlands, provides a great opportunity to discover and enjoy good, healthy Dutch food and products.
Master Chef Jasper Udink Ten Cate from the Netherlands has been invited for the Dutch Food Week.Shoppers and visitors will have the opportunity to taste succulent Dutch delicacies whilst enjoying the live cooking show and storytelling by Cate till Monday.
On Sunday, whilst cooking, Cate talked about the 17th century inspired cooking, that tells the stories of Dutch trade and the taste of that food.During the live cooking show on Monday, he will discuss the creative art in his food. He will create big paintings on baking paper with all kinds of colours.
Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, Bart Beltman, chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Netherlands, highlighted the love both the Omani and the Dutch share for food.Beltman said, 'Omani and Dutch people share many things, including their love for good, tasty and healthy food. Every day, we as Dutch guests here in Oman, have the opportunity to enjoy Omani cuisine.
'During this Dutch Food Week, I am honoured and pleased that we can offer the same hospitality we experience here by introducing the Dutch cuisine to Oman. I am inviting everyone to make use of the opportunity, and to enjoy it!'In his speech, Beltman also addressed the close link between water, energy and food.
'Many people know the Netherlands from its historic windmills – a centuries old solution for water management and grinding grain. Using such innovative and sustainable techniques has not only prevented our country from being flooded. It also contributed to becoming the world's second largest exporter of agricultural food products.'The Netherlands is more and more regarded as a world-class culinary destination. Did you know that the Netherlands hosts 100 restaurants with 1, 2 or 3 Michelin stars?'
The opening ceremony of the Dutch Food Week took place in the presence of top officials from the embassy, the management of Carrefour as well as Majid al Futtaim.
