Jordan backs independent inquiry of Syria chemical attack

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Apr 14 (Petra) –– Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, said on Saturday that Jordan is absolutely against the use of chemical weapons, which amounts to a "crime against humanity and a violation of all international laws." In a comment on the latest developments in Syria on his Twitter account, Safadi said that the Kingdom, at the same time, fully stands by the Syrian people's right to bring to an end their suffering and the catastrophic crisis that undermined the country.

He called for launching sincere efforts to find a political solution to the crisis that preserves Syria's unity and independence and protects the "brotherly" people of Syria.

"There should be an independent international investigation of the use of chemical weapons, and we should prevent further collapse in Syria by seriously engaging in the ongoing talks via the Geneva process to agree on a political solution based on resolution 2254," he said.

"Protecting Syria and its people and ending its suffering is a goal that all efforts should be pooled to achieve," he said.
