FM meets UN Special Envoys for Syria, Libya


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Riyadh, April 12 (Petra)-- Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi Thursday met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama over the latest developments in the war-torn countries.

During his meeting with de Mistura, the minister emphasized that the crisis in Syria could not be resolved militarily and that the only solution is through political and peaceful means in line with the Geneva process.

He also called for a thorough investigation into a recent chemical attack in Douma region in Syria, and the adoption of a suitable position by the international community toward its perpetrator.

The top diplomat also reiterated the need to stop infighting in Syria and step up efforts to reach a political solution in accordance with the UN resolution 2254.

Moreover, Safadi voiced Jordan's firm support of endeavors aimed at unifying Libyans. Meanwhile, UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama commended Jordan's eagerness to bring about security to Libya and the Kingdom's efforts to ensure stability of the North African nation.

Salama also spoke about the recent developments in Libya and noted that the country plans to conduct a municipal elections by the end of April.
