Afghan national who helped recruit Kalyan youths for ISIS killed

An Afghan national who helped four Kalyan youths join ISIS was shot dead in an encounter in Kabul last May, his wife's relative has confirmed.
Yasmeen, his wife, returned to India with their four children in February, but her in-laws, parents of Rehman Dawlaty, are pressurizing her to move back, he added.
Since her return, agencies including ATS and NIA have recorded Yasmeen's statement.

On May 25, 2014, Areeb Majeed, Amaan Tandel, Fahad Shaikh and Saheem Tanki reached Baghdad from Kalyan.
On May 31, they hired a cab for Mosul, but soon went missing.
They were later found to have joined ISIS in Syria.
Majeed returned, but Tandel and Shaikh became ISIS' 'poster boys' and appeared in propaganda videos.
Majeed is in jail. The others are believed dead.

According to records, Dawlaty was instrumental in recruiting the four. He had also arranged financial assistance from Kuwait for the recruits.
When Dawlaty was picked up during one of his trips to Mumbai, he said he visited the city for "business."
The ATS lodged a case against him and three others- another Afghan national and two Kalyan residents- under the Foreigners Act in September'14.

Personal life
Dawlaty met Yasmeen through the Islamic Research Center in 2011. Her family didn't know about his activities.
"We saw he was religious and offered prayers five times a day," her relative said.
Two months after their marriage in 2011, they left for Afghanistan.
Her family found out about his death two months after the encounter.
NIA sources have corroborated his statements, HT reports.
