(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said the plan's budget was reduced by $110 million from $2.65 billion annually to $2.4 billion for the period 2018-2020.
He urged the international community to provide sufficient funding through supporting the 2018-2020 Jordan Response Plan and through grants to meet Jordan's budget needs over the next three years.
The minister also stressed the importance of continued international support to Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian crisis, noting that the international community provided the sum of $1.7 billion to the plan's projects in 2017.
Fakhoury also urged the international community to increase its support to Jordan in 2018, as Jordan alone, will not be able to continue its services to the refugees and preserve development gains.
The minister also affirmed the importance of aid provided by the international community, adding that it played a key role in continuing humanitarian and development support to the Syrian refugees as well as host communities of those refugees.
Fakhoury reviewed the role of his ministry in preparing the Jordan Response Plan for the Syria Crisis 2018 -2020, adding that the ministry took brave decision to improve multilateral planning, coordinate aid, and enhance transparency and accountability.
On results of projects implemented in 2017, the minister said that many accomplishments have been achieved last year including better access to education, noting that around 130,000 Syrian students currently study at the Kingdom's public schools.
Representatives of states, donor parties and UN agencies praised in their speeches Jordan's stance towards the refugees and pledged their continued support to the Kingdom to enable it to deal with the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.
