Poland informs EU it has no plans in hosting migrants

(MENAFN) Poland's Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak has firmly rejected the European Union's new migration pact, which requires member states to share responsibility for relocated asylum seekers. The pact mandates that countries at the EU's external borders, facing higher migration flows, must accept relocated migrants or pay €20,000 per person as compensation. However, Siemoniak reiterated Poland’s stance, emphasizing that the country will not comply with the relocation obligations.

He linked Poland's increasing crime rates to past migration policies and highlighted the growing security concerns, particularly from foreign criminal groups. Poland has implemented stricter border controls and visa regulations to address these issues. In addition, Siemoniak reaffirmed Poland’s refusal to accept any migrants under the new pact, despite the potential financial penalties.

Poland's government has also suspended asylum claims for new arrivals, defying European and international laws. Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski have voiced concerns about the EU pact's implications for national security, citing the country’s proximity to Russia and Belarus. Poland has seen a significant rise in migrants crossing the Belarus border since 2021 and is considering further border restrictions.

The EU continues to press Poland on its obligations under the pact, despite the country’s hospitality to over a million Ukrainian refugees since 2022. Some Polish officials have expressed fatigue over the presence of refugees, particularly due to certain behaviors of young Ukrainian men, further complicating Poland's stance on migration policy.
