Netanyahu says Trump’s Gaza strategy possibly to ‘change history’

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed strong support for US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza, calling it a potentially historic step and praising the president for thinking “outside the box.” During a joint press conference at the White House, trump outlined plans for the US to assume control of Gaza, clear the debris, and rebuild the enclave. He also reiterated his stance on permanently resettling Palestinians outside Gaza.

Netanyahu welcomed the idea, emphasizing that one of Israel’s primary goals in the ongoing conflict has been ensuring Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel. He praised Trump for his innovative approach, stating that the proposal could change the course of history and acknowledging that both Israel and the US were exploring the possibility.

The Israeli prime minister also lauded Trump as Israel’s “greatest friend” in the White House, citing several pro-Israel policies from Trump’s first term, including the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal. Trump's plan involves transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” with plans to resettle the two million Palestinians residing there. He indicated that US troops could be deployed to Gaza if deemed necessary.
