(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Jordanian man has been charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines, with illegally recruiting domestic workers to Saudi Arabia.
, who has a Filipino wife working in Cyprus, is charged with violating the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 and the Expanded Anti-Human Trafficking Act.
Last month, complainants Jenypher Alcoran, Sarah Jane Fabros and Maria Blessyl Sarah said they had been referred to Hamdan by Sphinx Group Manpower Provider Inc for jobs abroad, reported.
They said Hamdan promised to waive their placement fees to work as domestic workers in Saudi Arabia and provide free transport and accommodation and a monthly salary of 20,000 pesos (US$390).
As the promises were not realized, the job applicants filed a complaint to the NBI.
Hamdan said he was renting a room in a house in the area, but claimed he was not connected with any employment agency. He also claimed that he was just a visitor in the Philippines.
