Muscat-based student's book on mathematics garners rave reviews

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A mathematics book written by Shehab Khan, a grade 10 student of American British Academy (ABA), is winning praise of experts around the world.

Shehab, 15, said, 'As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula, grade 10 students are required to create a unique product in an area they are truly passionate about. I took this opportunity to combine my love for mathematics, writing and teaching, a product that I can share with the world.

'I wrote the book Math-E-Mazing! The Beauty of Mathematics which is an expression of my passion. My goal was to expose the reader to the beauty of mathematics. The book consists of several university-level problems, puzzles, paradoxes and dilemmas presented in an entertaining and easy-to-understand way.'

Shehab has received several comments from world famous mathematicians and authors online as well.

'An accessible and delightfully informal discussion of some fascinating topics in mathematics. The author's enthusiasm is evident throughout. Informative and inspiring,' writes Professor Ian Stewart FRS of the University of Warwick and author of The Mathematics of Life.

'Beautiful compilation of fascinating problems in mathematics, written in an enthusiastic and excitingly informal tone,' writes Professor Cedric Villani of University of Lyon, Fields Medal winner.

Shehab said he always loved playing with numbers. 'I like solving problems involving logic, reasoning and probability. I am a frequent viewer of many mathematics channels on YouTube such as Numberphile, that contains a compilation of several mathematical videos presented by some of the most famous mathematicians.

'I love watching these videos as they give me a deeper insight into mathematics - much beyond my high school curricula. Besides watching videos, I read a lot of books from famous authors in order to gain a deeper understanding of concepts.

Shehab said it is his father who believes that mathematics is fundamental to all learning. 'He always helps, guides and inspires me in my quest for learning mathematics.'

However, it was his grade 8 mathematics teacher Megel Barker who ignited his love for mathematics. 'At a time when my interest in mathematics was just limited to the school curriculum and obtaining good grades in exams, he exposed me to the real beauty of mathematics. I am also greatly influenced by the teaching style of my high school teacher Mr Sen K Jose. He makes complicated problems look so simple.'

The book, available on Amazon, has sold more than 100 copies since it got published. The eBook version of the book is currently available at US$2.99.
