At least nine people injured as typhoon Etau lands on central Japan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Typhoon Etau made landfall in central Japan and was moving northward on Wednesday, after leaving at least nine people wounded and two were seriously injured due to strong wind, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said.
The season's 18th typhoon landed on Aichi Prefecture shortly after bringing heavy rain and strong winds to many areas including Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Local authorities in central Japan issued evacuation orders to some 14,000 residents due to the risk of landslides, airlines canceled more than 50 flights to and from airports in Aichi and some train services were also partially suspended.
Typhoon Etau was locate 30 km northwest of Komatsu City on the Sea of Japan as heading northwest at a speed of around 40 km per hour (kph), the weather agency said. It has the maximum wind gust speed of 108 kph, according to the agency. It also said the storm is expected to weaken into an extratropical depression off the Sea of Japan in the evening, but warned of continued heavy rain in eastern Japan through Thursday, which could trigger landslides and floods.
