(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Jaleel Wholesale Point, or JWP, a subsidiary of Jaleel Holdings - a four-decade-old, Dubai-based group - is on a massive expansion spree, said a top executive of Jaleel Holdings.
The group has been a pioneer in smart-stocking - which ensures small-scale retailers get faster return on investments with quick stock rotation - in Dubai since 2006.
"JWP is celebrating 10 years of operations and is now about to set up a role model shop spanning 250,000 to 300,000 square feet. This warehouse in Dubai will facilitate high-end customer service in buying and selling. We are looking for a location with adequate space and easy accessibility for retail traders," Samer Mohammed, managing director, Jaleel Holdings, told Khaleej Times.
"JWP's smartstocking units mainly cater to grocers, restaurants and supermarkets and recorded 40 per cent growth in 2014. In the current year, we are expecting growth of 20 to 22 per cent. We attribute the marginal decline to external factors. Currently, brand Uncle J's accounts for 60 to 70 products. This will soon be ramped up to 300 products covering pulses, spices and food items among others."
Mohammed added that the company's turnover has grown close to four times in the past 10 years and registered a CAGR of 12.5 per cent. From Dh200 million, the turnover is now in the range of Dh850 million.
"Wholesale points are like large supermarkets where retailers can shop around with huge trolleys similar to what consumers do in supermarkets. We have 11 units now. Our intention is to get closer to the retailers with 15 units by 2017. We contact about 1,650 registered customers on a daily basis, either through walk-ins or deliveries. We service over 5,500 customers and around 1,000 unregistered customers in a month," said Mohammed.
The group is also taking active interest in corporate social responsibility. Mohammed said: "We are pleased that the recent 'Grow Your Food' initiative received an overwhelming response from residents to use home-grown vegetables. We were proud to associate with Dubai Municipality for this initiative, which aimed at creating a culture of growing vegetable gardens in residential premises.
"As part of the campaign, we guided the participants about organic household farming methods and distributed high-yielding vegetable seeds suited for their gardens. We have a strong social commitment and focused devotion to the environment, promoting natural products among residents in the UAE. We always support campaigns that encourage people to embrace the concepts like home-made vegetables and herbs."
