Saudi- 100000 math science teachers to be trained
(MENAFN- Arab News) The government plans to provide extra training over two years for 100000 mathematics and science teachers at all levels across the Kingdom to improve their technical skills.
The National Company for Developing Educational Services which is implementing the King Abdullah Project to Develop General Education is overseeing the training in collaboration with Pearson Global Education Company.
'The program to develop the skills of teachers in math and science will take place over two years from November this year' Muhammad Al-Zaghaiby executive president of the national education company said in a statement.
Al-Zaghaiby said mathematics and science are the most difficult subjects for students with many seeking private lessons. During the first phase 500 educators would be trained to become professional trainers he said. The teachers would be drawn from primary intermediate and secondary schools across the country. He said skills in science technology engineering and mathematics are important to help develop the Kingdom into a knowledge-based economy. It is also important for students to be encouraged to seek jobs in science and technology so that they can become inventors and innovators.
'We consider it essential to develop the teaching skills of these 100000 teachers. It will have a far-reaching impact on them and help shape a generation of students capable of developing a positive future based on STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics)' he said.
Middle East Regional Manager of Pearson Karim Dawood said countries across the world are gradually realizing the pivotal role of science and mathematics in developing the skills of students.
'Only scientists bring about advancements in technology. The development of science education is fundamental to innovation. These days advanced countries are focusing on preparing qualified teachers in science technology engineering and math because they know that they are the engine for industrial development' he said.
