Egypt Online Advertising Market Research Report
(MENAFNEditorial) Increasing users of social networking, increasing number of e-commerce and group buying websites to boost the spending on online advertising in Egypt
Online advertisement industry in Egypt holds substantial potential as the fixed broadband and mobile penetration rate in the country was around 2.2% and 102.8% respectively in 2011. However, as compared to other Arab countries such as UAE and Saudi Arabia, these rates are low, which shows that the online advertising industry spending would further increase as penetration rates would surge further. The relatively lower internet penetration can be attributed to the low computer literacy in the country. Currently in Egypt, online display advertising tops with its share of 60.0% in online advertisement spending, particularly due to its resemblance to the traditional banner type advertisements. However, the importance of online search advertisements is gradually increasing as the advertisers have started to realize the significance of compact and targeted advertisements. Segments such as lead generation, sponsorship advertising, mobile and email have made lesser contributions over the years. Social networking, in the recent years, has become one of the most prevalent topics in Egypt majorly due to the political uprisings in the country. Mobile internet has played a crucial role in social bookmarking in the country by communicating the thoughts of the population. Of the overall internet users, around 42.5% of the population use Facebook as a means of social interaction. Twitter is another site gaining popularity with around 1.4 million visitors in April 2011. Thus, both these networks have acted as a helpful source of online display advertising to reach the maximum audience
"In 2011, around 70.0% of the population within classes A and B of the urban society had access to internet but only 50.0% and 25.0% of classes C and D had internet access respectively" – According to the research report 'Egypt Online Advertising Market Outlook to 2017- Favorable Prospects in Online Search Advertising' by Ken Research
The online advertising industry in Egypt is set to witness an immense rise as the economy is recovering from political turmoil and the internet penetration and computer literacy is expected to increase tremendously. It would become a crucial medium for the biggest advertisers of the country. Although, the brand based advertisers would be the key to the success of the platform in the medium run, small scale, medium scale enterprises and e-commerce would be the key elements of this industry in the longer term
