Europe is experiencing one of its worst crises and is at risk of collapse, a French government spokesman warned ahead of a Brussels meeting on migration policy on Sunday.
Benjamin Griveaux told Radio Classique : "If Europe is unable to agree [and] work on a common approach to migration, then I unfortunately fear that [Europe] will finally disintegrate."
The Visegrad states (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia), which take a hardline stance on migration, have announced that they will stay away from Sunday's meeting.
The migration issue is expected to figure prominently in the European elections in the coming year.
