Pakistan is interested in intensifying cooperation with Turkmenistan andearly completion of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain made a statement at a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.Husseinarrived to Dushanbe to participate in the forum entitled 'Water for Sustainable Development, the Turkmen leader reported.
Hussain pointed out the relevance of the proposals to join efforts in addressing such aspects of environmental issues as the preservation and restoration of water and other natural resources, combating desertification and land degradation, preventing and minimizing the consequences of natural and man-made disasters.
Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of the strategic partnership with Pakistan, successfully developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
The two leaders expressed mutual interest in the implementation of the TAPIgas pipeline project, as well as the laying of the power transmission line and the fiber-optic communication line.
The pipeline will run from Galkynysh the largest gas field in Turkmenistan through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, and finally reach the Fazilka settlement located near the India-Pakistan border.
The total length of the pipeline is 1,814 kilometers, including 214 kilometersinthe territory of Turkmenistan, 774 kilometers inAfghanistan, 826 kilometers in Pakistan to the settlement of Fazilka on the border with India. The preliminary cost of the project is $10 billion. Annual capacity of the gas pipeline will be 33 billion cubic meters.
Turkmen gas will help meet the growing energy consumption in India and Pakistan, where the demand may increase twofold until 2030. Also Turkmen gas will help eliminate the permanent deficit of energy resources in the transit country, Afghanistan.
The sides also spoke for expanding humanitarian cooperation. At the end of the meeting, Berdimuhamedov and Hussain reaffirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and Pakistan to the course on diversification of multi-format cooperation in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
It was also decided to hold trade exhibitions to promote trade and economic activities between the two countries.
