DOHA: Qatar Charity's (QC) office in Turkey has been organising Iftar programmes for underprivileged people and refugee families in addition to hosting Iftars for the general public and the Muslim communities living in the country. Also, the distribution of Ramadan food baskets and e-vouchers continues in many Turkish cities and governorates.
QC office has held four large collective Iftar tables in the municipality of Üsküdar, which were attended by more than 160,000 fasting people, whereas several Iftar programs were organized in the municipality of Şahinbey in the Gaziantep Province, where each table was attended by more than 40,000 fasting people, said a release.
Also Iftar tables are being hosted by QC in the municipality of Ankara, targeting Syrian families and members of the Muslim communities, where more than 100 families participate in each QC's Iftar table.
QC office in Turkey managed to distribute 5,000 Ramadan food baskets containing basic foodstuffs in many Turkish municipalities and cities. Also, around 13000 e-vouchers were gifted to the needy in cooperation with official local authorities to help beneficiaries receive free foodstuff from commercial stores under these vouchers.
Mohammad Wahi, director of QC's regional office in Turkey, said Qatar Charity implements Iftar projects and distributes food baskets and vouchers in cooperation with the local authorities in targeted places. He pointed out that vouchers are gifted to families, who can not attend Iftar tables, to enable them to purchase their needs in a manner that preserves their human dignity.
An agreement has been signed with the A-101 company, a chain of commercial stores with more than 7,000 branches in all neighborhoods in Turkish cities, to help beneficiary families purchase all their food items from the stores of this company until the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is the expiration date of these vouchers, Wahi said.
