Turkey to urge US to expel Kurds from N. Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, June 2 (KUNA) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said his upcoming talks with visiting US State Secretary Mike Pompeo would focus on banishing the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) from Syria's northeastern city of Manbij.
Cavusoglu said he would also be addressing who would be in charge of administration and security affairs in the city until a political solution is reached in Syria and moving jointly with the US in this regard.
The move would require a timeframe, which he said in press statements, was also on the agenda of the Monday meeting.
After Manbij, Turkey plans to push forward with applying the model across other Syrian border cities controlled by the Kurdish party, he added.
Cavusoglu suggested this was necessary in order to assert stability in these areas.
The talks would also underline the need for the US administration's repatriation of the US-based Turkish exile Fethullah Gulen, who Ankara blames for masterminding numerous coup attempts. (end) ta.sd
