(MENAFNEditorial) Civil servants, who participated in the recently held intermediate Hypertext Preprocessor (PHK) and public key infrastructure (PKI) for several civil servants training, are expected to be more efficient in the way they do business in the government service.
So says Director of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) Mr. Andre Bailey addressing the closing of the training sessions, Mr. Bailey said he was grateful for the financial and miscellaneous assistance from the Republic of China (Taiwan) which took the project forward.
According to him, the pilot agencies included the Service Commissions Department, Ministry of Finance, Customs and Excise, Treasury, and Inland Revenue Department, among others. The ITSD Director urged all participants to make use of the training to make the public sector a better place.
Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Calvin C.H. Ho, in his first public engagement since his installation, stated it is wonderful to share this experience with our allies. He hoped that his government will continue to support such projects in the future. In reference to the training, Ambassador Ho noted that good quality people is key to a solid foundation.
He told participants that this is just the beginning of their work and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to their daily work. The Ambassador thanked the Minister of Information, Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, and Mr. Bailey for their support. He also thanked the trainers for sharing their expertise.
Minister of Finance, Information Technology, Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, said it is appropriate that Ambassador Ho's first public engagement is a matter dealing with technology.
Minister Gonsalves added that this is a wonderful example of the exercise of their sovereignty and that they chose to share with us. The Minister of Information thanked the trainers and everyone who took time to absorb the training.
With regards to the handling of documents in St. Vincent and the Grenadines' public service, Minister Gonsalves stated the mode has not changed since colonial times and that the system remains largely antiquated. He further stated that the system is inefficient, insecure and called for change.
It is about time for it to be upgraded and this will significantly enhance the work of the government, he added. This is why we have partnered with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to spearhead this project, Minister Gonsalves explained. He expressed gratitude to our friends in Taiwan for sharing their knowledge in this regard.
The PHP and PKI training is another initiative under the Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) project for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The training will enable users to authenticate documents which involve confirming users to ensure that documents cannot be tampered with and to encrypt and/or decrypt documents to ensure privacy.
The course began on May 7th-18th, 2018 with funding support from the Republic of China (Taiwan) of US $1.85 million. It was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Planning, Information Technology and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
