Qatar, Bahrain voices support for Morocco
(MENAFN) Qatar has voiced solidarity with Rabat "in preserving its sovereignty against any attempts aimed at undermining its unity or targeting the security of the Kingdom of Morocco and the safety of its citizens", according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
These remarks come in the light of Moroccan Foreign Minister announcement that his country has decided to sever ties with Iran on Tuesday over Tehran's support for the Polisario Front, a Western Sahara independence movement.
"Qatar stresses the importance of respecting the principles governing relations between states, foremost among them respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs and the resolution of disputes through dialogue and peaceful means and internationally recognized methods," Qatar's Foreign Ministry added.
Meanwhile, Bahrain Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa held a telephone call yesterday with Morocco's Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Minister Nasser Bourita, during which he affirmed Bahrain's support for Morocco"s decision to sever relations with Iran over its ally Hizbollah's military support to the Polisario Front.
Iranian authorities have not yet reacted to the Moroccan foreign minister's remarks.
