(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) KABUL: At least nine people were killed and 56 wounded in an explosion in Dasht-e-Barchi in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Sunday morning.
The explosion happened at an ID distribution and voter registration center at about 10am. Kabul's acting police chief, Mohammad Daoud Amin, said a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the doorway of the offices.
Eyewitnesses said a number of ambulances converged on the area and security forces cordoned off the scene of the explosion, Afghan media reported.
CEO Abdullah Abdullah immediately condemned the attack and said in a tweet: 'I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on voters' registration center in Kabul. I stand with those affected by this coward attack. Our resolve for fair and transparent elections will continue and terrorists won't win against the will of the Afghan people.'
This is the fourth attack in less than a week against the election process. On Tuesday, unknown armed men attacked a voter registration center in Ghor province and kidnapped three IEC employees and two policemen.
Ghor police spokesman said the attackers were Taliban. On Thursday, unknown armed men attacked two police force members in Jalalabad City who were guarding a voter registration center.
