Mexico bars sales of controversial Frida Kahlo Barbie doll

(MENAFN) Mexico has banned Frida Kahlo Barbie doll from shop shelves, as a court delivered the rights of her image to her family.

Artist Frida Kahlo has been included with a number of new Barbie dolls collections that were introduced to the market by toy firm Mattel based on "inspiring women".

However, the company was accused by several of her family members to have not been granted consent for the use of Frida's image.

Speaking to AFP news agency, her niece Mara Romeo complained "I would have liked the doll to have traits more like Frida's, not this doll with light-coloured eyes."

Following the ruling of the court, the painter's niece expressed her thrill and hailed a justice that was "finally being done".
