Stanford University former head awarded 'Nobel Prize of Computing'


(MENAFN) US Stanford University declared its former president John Hennessy to have been presented with the 2017 ACM A.M. Turing Award.

The award is commonly thought of as the "Nobel Prize of Computing", as Hennessy won it for his efforts in a method to computer architecture and its effects on the microprocessor industry.

Stanford has issued a statement confirming Hennessy to have won the award together with his partner, David Patterson.

The prize has been presented to both of them by the US Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for their work to set up a systematic and quantitative approach to designing faster, lower power, and reduced instruction set computer (RISC) Microprocessors.
