Iran denies military presence in Syria
(MENAFN) Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is visiting Moscow, has been questioned about the presence of a military base in Syria, the Fars news agency reported on Monday (February 19th).
The Minister said that "We do not have a base in Syria."
In recent weeks, US and Israeli officials have put forward allegations about Iran's military presence in Syria.
Zarif, however, claimed that Iran had sent military advisers to Syria to help the Syrian legitimate government in the fight against terrorism.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has also addressed the issue of counter-terrorism in the region. "The terrorist group Daesh has suffered a great failure in Syria and Iraq," added Mohammad Javad Zarif.
