New test detects 193 diseases in children
(MENAFN) A new test that can detect 193 potential diseases in newborns has been developed by a US company.
The test includes the analysis of samples taken from the babies' inner cheeks; this DNA-based test facilitates the detection of different diseases like anemia, epilepsy and metabolic disorders.
This new development is an added equipment for child disease screening and observing in hospitals that check 34 illnesses and disorders, and usually require a blood sample from the newborn's heel, Eric Schadt, CEO of Sema4, the company that developed this test, said.
The test checks a number of selected genes, rather than in the entire human genome, and also studies the response of children to about 38 drugs commonly prescribed by pediatricians.
