Douglas Silliman: Washington sees Iran's influence in the region as a problem

(MENAFN)An American envoy said that the US is preparing to roll back the influence of Iran and help Iraq to solve its conflict with the Kurdish region, after Iraqi forces managed to defeat Daesh and end the six-year war.

Weeks before the start of the operation to reclaim the northern city of Mosul in 2016, US Ambassador Douglas Silliman took up his post in Baghdad.

Douglas Silliman says that Washington is ready to mediate peace and rebuild the country; now that Iraq managed to drive out Daesh of all the territory it once held, and declared that the war against the terrorists is over, asserting that Washington describes Iran's influence as a "problem".

"Iran simply does not respect the sovereignty of its neighbours." he said.
