Ind vs SL 1st ODI: List of India's unwanted records
10 Dec 2017

The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka kicked off with the visitors winning the toss and putting India to bat first.

The decision turned out to be spot on as Lankans tore apart the Indian batting line-up with the hosts reeling at 29 for the loss of 7 wickets at the 17-over mark.

Here is the list of unwanted records broken by India.

Sri Lanka tear India apart
Worst Start

India found themselves at 2 for the loss of two wickets after 5 overs, their worst start in ODIs.

It didn't end there as they lost their first 5 wickets before crossing the 16 run margin, their lowest ever in ODIs.

Their previous lowest was 17 for 5 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

Karthik sets an unfortunate record
Duck

The Indian batsmen had a bad day out on the 22-yard- strip but Dinesh Karthik probably had the worst.

The right handed batsman now holds the record for the most balls faced before being dismissed on a duck.

Karthik was dismissed after facing 18 balls breaking the earlier record held by E Solkar who was dismissed after 17 balls at the Oval in 1974.

Dhoni's heroics spare India's blushes
Superking

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Dhoni did what was exactly expected of him, bailing India out of deep trouble.

The former Indian skipper also reached the 16,000 run landmark in international cricket, the second wicketkeeper batsman to do so.

Mahi is also the sixth Indian to reach the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli.

India's stiffest challenge so far?
Maidens

India's start to the game was so poor that Lankans managed to bowl five maidens in the first 7-overs.

The last time, India played as many as five maidens in an ODI at home was also at Dharamsala against England, where 5 maiden overs were bowled in the entire innings.

Unfortunately, India also posted lowest-ever score in 1st powerplay in the history of ODI.
